NEW YORK, NY. — Quarterback Marcus Mariota became the first University of Oregon player to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night, beating out Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon and Alabama’s Amari Cooper.
Mariota threw for 38 touchdowns this season, 53 total when you add in rushing and receiving, and had just two interceptions. Mariota won by the second largest margin in Heisman Trophy voting history.
Mariota and the Ducks will play Florida St. in one of two semifinal games at the Rose Bowl on January 1st.
