EUGENE, Ore. — Two University of Oregon men’s basketball players are accused of shoplifting from the Market of Choice on Franklin Boulevard in Eugene last month. Police say a grocery store employee caught Elgin Cook and Jalil Abdul-Bassit, both 21, stealing food on the afternoon of September 12. Officers responded and the two men were cited in lieu of custody.
Dana Altman released this statement about the incident:
“We are disappointed with these two young men. We expect our student-athletes to conduct themselves as solid members of this community and team. Both are being disciplined internally.”
Earlier this spring, three men’s basketball players were accused of raping a UO student. The three players were dismissed from the team and expelled from the school although the charges were dropped.
